The global non-profit organization CDP (Carbon Disclosure Project) has once again awarded KONE an "A" rating for outstanding environmental transparency and climate protection measures for 2024. Among nearly 25,000 companies assessed, KONE is one of the few to receive this top rating. KONE has received a leadership rating of A or A- for the twelfth consecutive year, confirming its consistent commitment to sustainability and the environment. KONE was honored with the German Sustainability Award in November 2024.
KONE is particularly committed to greater sustainability in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland (DACH). For this, the company was awarded the German Sustainability Award in the Lifting and Materials Handling Technology category in 2024. For Alexander Vitt, Chairman of the Board of KONE DACH, this is above all an incentive: "Sustainability is part of KONE's DNA. We have anchored the reduction of emissions as a principle in our corporate strategy. Awards such as the CPD rating or, in our case, the German Sustainability Award, show us that we are on the right track. We will continue to do everything we can to make the future of mobility more climate-friendly."
Kirsi Simola-Laaksonen, Senior Vice President (SVP) Sustainability and Environment, assesses CDP from the company's perspective: "It is an honor for us to be included on CDP's prestigious A-List for climate action. We are accelerating our efforts to reduce our carbon emissions and support our customers in decarbonization. Our innovative solutions, such as regenerative drive technology, significantly reduce the energy consumption of elevators, resulting in a lower carbon footprint. We are already seeing the impact our solutions are having, and together with our customers and partners, we continue to lead the way in making cities smarter, more sustainable, and more livable."
KONE sets ambitious climate goals and achieves measurable success
KONE was the first company in its industry to set science-based emission reduction targets. The company is committed to achieving carbon-neutral operations by 2030 and reducing operational emissions (Scope 1 & 2) by 50% compared to the 2018 baseline. Emissions related to ordered products are also to be reduced by 40% by 2030. This covers the entire life cycle, from raw materials used to energy consumption in operations (Scope 3).
The ambitious measures are showing clear success: In 2024, KONE was already able to reduce absolute emissions from its own operations by 29% and Scope 3 emissions by 12.8% – compared to the base year 2018. Furthermore, KONE was the first company in the industry to achieve carbon-neutral production units worldwide in summer 2023 – 18 months ahead of schedule.
Highest standard for environmental transparency
CDP operates the world's leading independent environmental disclosure system. Companies voluntarily report on CO₂ emissions, climate risks, and mitigation strategies. Grades from A to D reflect the completeness of disclosure, understanding and management of climate risks, and leading environmental measures.
