SK Rapid's professional players Niklas Hedl and Moritz Oswald, along with Elisabeth Overbeeke (Diversity Management & Sustainability at SK Rapid), visited the MOMO ZeitRaum, the day hospice of the MOMO Children's Palliative Care Center. The afternoon was dedicated to connecting, sharing joy—and supporting critically ill children and their families.
As part of the program, the children at the day hospice played games, did crafts, and laughed together. A small soccer goal, softballs, a poster designed by the children together, and a face-painting station generated enthusiasm. The educational team at the MOMO Children's Palliative Care Center designed the games and creative stations with great care and sensitivity. The multi-professional MOMO team provided support for this special gathering.
A seriously ill child in a wheelchair who regularly visits the MOMO ZeitRaum had been looking forward to the Rapid players' visit for days – but was almost unable to attend because he had to be admitted to the hospital. However, the anticipation was so great that the boy was granted leave at short notice for this special occasion.
Initially shy, he blossomed over the course of the meeting, asking the professional players for soccer tricks. He even found the strength to leave his wheelchair to kick a few balls with them. A moment full of strength, joy, and genuine connection that will remain in the memory of all those present.
"For the children we support at MOMO and their siblings, this visit means much more than just a moment of relaxation," says Martina Kronberger-Vollnhofer, pediatrician and director of the MOMO Children's Palliative Care Center. "It's about genuine closeness, the feeling of belonging and being seen. The fact that SK Rapid has opened this space is a powerful gesture for us – and we are deeply grateful for this togetherness."
"The visit to the MOMO ZeitRaum was deeply moving for all of us," adds Elisabeth Overbeeke. "The children's joy of life and openness deeply impressed us. Thank you to all the children and carers for the warm encounter. Moments like these show how important it is that we as SK Rapid live out our social responsibility in the spirit of our mission statement even off the pitch and use our charisma to raise awareness and support for important institutions like MOMO."
MOMO ZeitRaum is a day hospice for critically ill children, adolescents, and their families. It offers a safe space for support, exchange, and respite – outside of the home. All services are free of charge for families, are unlimited in time, and are funded entirely by donations.
