Award-winning beers, as well as spirits and vinegars, are now available in innovative corrugated cardboard solutions from DS Smith Packaging Austria.

The distinctive beers, vinegars, and spirits from the Hirt private brewery are popular gifts far beyond Carinthia's borders. To meet the growing demand in online retail and the trend toward packaging solutions made from renewable raw materials, a new, sustainable premium e-commerce packaging was developed in collaboration with the international corrugated board manufacturer DS Smith. This optimally protects 0.5 l and 0.75 l bottles while also being visually appealing.

Premium beer, as well as select spirits and spicy vinegars, deserve the best packaging to ensure they survive transport unscathed. Because enjoyment only truly begins when the bottle is opened, the new premium e-commerce packaging ensures that every order reaches customers safely, stylishly, and with that special something.

Safely “in limbo”

The innovative corrugated cardboard solution from packaging manufacturer DS Smith secures bottles of high-quality specialty products such as beer, spirits, and vinegars so that they are safely suspended and enjoy special protection at critical points such as the cap and base. A bumper and safety flap ensure that every delivery arrives undamaged.

Smart and sustainably packaged

The new packaging combines product protection with ecological responsibility. The DS Smith design team applied its circular design principles, unique in the industry, to develop a solution that is completely plastic-free, 100 percent recyclable, and optimized for logistics. "We wanted to create a solution that uses as few materials as possible, is sustainable, smart, and customer-friendly. This meets the high standards of secure delivery of premium food," says Dieter Glawischnig, Managing Director of DS Smith Packaging Austria. A study commissioned by DS Smith in the UK also underscores that secure delivery is a crucial factor in today's booming e-commerce landscape. According to the study, 47 percent of e-commerce consumers received damaged goods from online purchases in 2023, resulting in an average loss of 132 Ꞓ per person. "DS Smith's innovative solution for Hirt Private Brewery addresses these challenges by ensuring the secure packaging of various bottle sizes and types and eliminating the need for additional components." Glawischnig adds: "This also significantly speeds up the packaging process, ultimately enabling cost-efficient warehousing."

More than protection: An experience

The new packaging combines functionality with design. It's quick to assemble, offers generous space for branding, and transforms unpacking into a small highlight. Its understated elegance is impressive. The natural look, combined with the subtle white flexo printing, hints at the quality of the contents even before opening. This gives consumers a visually appealing foretaste of the packaged product.

Tradition meets innovation

With over 755 years of brewing tradition, the Hirt Private Brewery stands for quality, regionality, and care. DS Smith contributes its expertise in sustainable packaging solutions. This collaboration demonstrates how tradition and innovation go hand in hand. Heimo Schader, Managing Director of the Hirt Private Brewery, emphasizes, "While we are passionate about our first-class products, DS Smith ensures the perfect, sustainable packaging. This allows our customers to enjoy our wide range of products in the highest quality, even by ordering from our new online shop."
