PORR has already installed 16 photovoltaic systems on the roofs of its branches as part of its rollout. The first ground-mounted system will go into operation this year. The construction company is thus taking a major step toward decarbonization and energy independence.

"We use the roofs of our branches and landfill sites that would otherwise lie idle to supply PORR with renewable energy. And not a small amount of energy: Our plants will ultimately be able to supply a third of our annual electricity needs. In this way, we are making a concrete contribution to decarbonization," says Karl-Heinz Strauss, CEO of PORR.

PORR's Austria-wide photovoltaic rollout is progressing rapidly. Of the 30 rooftop and open-space installations planned by 2026, 16 rooftop systems with a total capacity of 4 MWp have already been commissioned. This year, they will produce a total of 4,000 MWh. This corresponds to the electricity needs of 1,100 average Austrian households.

The energy-packed future continues: In 2025, PORR will install its first ground-mounted system in Gerasdorf with a capacity of 2.8 MWp. In addition, ten additional rooftop systems will be implemented.

Supply of the locations

Another innovation is also planned: In the first half of the year, the PORR Citizens' Energy Association will begin operations as the first association in PORR's history. This marks another important step toward sustainable energy supply, as it will ensure that locations without their own PV systems are supplied with sustainably generated electricity from other PORR locations.

The photovoltaic rollout in Austria is one of numerous measures implemented by PORR in the energy sector. These include equipping the vehicle and equipment fleets with vehicles and equipment powered by alternative drive systems, and equipping the company's locations with electric charging stations and energy control systems.
