For the third time, employees raised 700,000 euros for aid projects.

The third edition of the voestalpine cares run, the steel and technology group's global exercise initiative, was once again a huge success this year. Under the motto "Running together for a good cause," employees around the world were once again able to collect more than 1.1 million kilometers in just under three months by running, walking, hiking, wheelchair use, and handbiking, collecting so-called "cares," which voestalpine converted into donations for charitable purposes. This year, a total of €700,000 was donated to Doctors Without Borders, Hilfswerk International, the Austrian Red Cross, and UNICEF Austria for selected national and international aid projects. For the first time, the voestalpine cares run was awarded first prize in the "Large Companies" category by "Wirtschaft hilft."

This year, around 7,300 employees from over 40 countries participated in the voestalpine cares run, making a valuable contribution to making the world a better place by running a total of more than 1.1 million kilometers, or 25 times around the world. "By participating in the voestalpine cares run, our employees from all over the world not only did something good for their health, but above all, they also made a social statement. I am particularly pleased that, thanks to their tremendous commitment, we have once again reached the maximum donation amount of €700,000 for international aid projects," says Herbert Eibensteiner, CEO of voestalpine AG.

This year, voestalpine will once again use the donations raised to support the following aid projects run by UNICEF, Doctors Without Borders, Hilfswerk International and the Austrian Red Cross:

  • Learning centers & learning support – Austrian Red Cross: 160 locations in Austria for children and young people offer free units in the learning centers and at the school location.
  • Hilfswerk International's "Help Points" offer low-threshold, immediate support for residents in areas affected by the war in Ukraine, including food, everyday products, and psychosocial support and counseling.
  • Future prospects for young people in Brazil – With the “1 Million Opportunities” initiative, UNICEF in Brazil is giving young people access to high-quality education.
  • Education and Digital Learning Centers in Ukraine – UNICEF is creating safe learning opportunities with laptops and tablets in war-affected areas of Ukraine through 50 Digital Learning Centers.
  • Emergency Disaster Relief RISK Kits – Doctors Without Borders: To provide the fastest possible assistance in an emergency situation, the Doctors Without Borders team can set up a modular “mini operating room” directly on site in a very short time, even in hard-to-reach areas, using a Rapid Intervention Surgical Kit (RISK Kit for short).
  • Toyota Land Cruiser – Doctors Without Borders uses Toyota Land Cruisers specially equipped with radio and protective equipment for medical emergencies to reach affected areas where conflict, food crises or water shortages exist.

In June 2025, the voestalpine cares run was awarded first place in the “Large Companies” category for the first time by “Wirtschaft hilft” of the Fundraising Association Austria.
