On the occasion of Global Recycling Day on March 18, 2025, waterdrop® reaffirms its commitment to a sustainable future and continues to work to reduce plastic waste.

With the introduction of the new deposit system in Austria for plastic bottles and beverage cans from January 1, 2025, an important step towards a circular economy will be taken. Consumers pay a deposit of 25 cents per package, which is refunded upon return. Welcomed as a pioneer in the field of sustainable beverage products waterdrop® this development and at the same time offers an even more environmentally friendly alternative.
“The new deposit system is an important step to strengthen the circular economy in Austria,” explains Martin Murray, founder and CEO of waterdrop®"But we at waterdrop® go even further: Our concept completely dispenses with plastic bottles and offers a sustainable alternative for conscious beverage enjoyment."

Sustainability is at the heart of waterdrop®'s philosophy. Through innovative solutions, the company is setting new standards in the beverage industry and proving that conscious consumption and environmental friendliness can go hand in hand, because as studies show, the burden of plastic waste continues to increase dramatically worldwide. To counteract this, waterdrop® reduces plastic consumption by up to 98% compared to drinks in 500 ml plastic bottles: 30,133,267 plastic bottles have already been saved thanks to a partnership with the Plastic Bank (as of December 2024).

Global Recycling Day on March 18, 2025 draws attention to the importance of the circular economy, as around 900,000 tons of plastic waste are generated annually in Austria alone, including 50,000 tons of beverage packaging. (Source: BMK) Companies like waterdrop® show that sustainable solutions are possible. “The most effective approach is to avoid plastic waste from the start,” says Murray. "waterdrop® relies on a sustainable alternative that makes single-use plastic unnecessary." With this consistent approach, waterdrop® positions itself as a movement for an environmentally conscious future – and shows that sustainable beverage enjoyment is also possible without a deposit.
